Week of October 27th, 2025

Reading

In reading this week we will be reading Tiny Rabbit’s Big Wish (Fable) and My Friends (Fiction). We will be working on identifying a fable and identifying the theme of a story. We will be working on the letter sounds C (Carla Cat) and P (Perla Porcupine). The focus letter will be, the letter C. Our reader this week will be I See November. This week we will be working on the following words: and, can, you, I and see.

Math

In math we will be working on shapes. We will identify three-dimensional shapes as solid shapes and describe their attributes. We will also name solid shapes regardless of their orientation, overall size, or wight.

Let’s Find Out

Our Let’s Find Out this week will be ne Bright Like a Diamond. Children will discover answers to questions about the night sky.

Special News

K5 will be having a Thursday Spirit Wear Day.  Wear your favorite Halloween shirt.  Think orange or black, pumpkin or spooky.  No costumes, however.

We will also be working on recognizing the features of a sentence. We will be working on the letter sounds N (Nina Newt) and D (Devin Duck). The focus letter will be, the letter T. Our reader this week will be The Life Cycle of a Pumpkin. This week we will be working on the following words: is, man, no, at, look and the.

In math we will be working to compare groups of objects and numbers up to 5. We will also work on recognizing that each counting number is one more than the last.

In addition, we will be Identifying the topic and central idea of a text. We will also be sorting words by the vowel sounds for Aa. We will be working on the letter sound A (Al Alligator). The focus letter will be, the letter Xx. Our reader this week will be Funny Pumpkins.  This week we will be working on the following words: am, at, go, a, is, what and here.

Field Trip – Pumpkin Farm

Whittier Elementary School

K4 & K5 Pumpkin Farm Field Trip

 

On Friday, October 24th, the K4 & K5 class will be going to the Pumpkin Farm to participate in a field trip to Ebert’s Garden Village, which is located at W1795 Fox Rd, Ixonia, WI 53036. The field trip is to assist students to have an outside experience with the changing seasons and life cycle of a pumpkin. During our field trip the students will participate in an interactive retelling of the story “The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything” by Linda Williams, a craft activity and pick a pumpkin they can carry. There is a cost of $10 per student (which includes a pumpkin) and is $6 for adults (pumpkins for adults are an additional cost).

We will leave Whittier School at 9:00 AM and return at approximately 1:45 PM.  Students will need to bring a bag lunch with juice / milk in a disposable bag labeled with their name (no refrigeration will be available).

All students must travel to and from Ebert’s Garden Village on the field trip bus.

Please fill out and return the bottom portion of this slip as well as the attached field trip slip by Thursday, October 9th.

Reading

In reading this week we will be reading Schools Around the World (Informational Text) and Annie, Bea, and Chi Chi Dolores (Alphabet Book).  We will be working on identifying characteristics of informational texts and recognizing the letters Aa – to Zz. We will be working on the letter sounds M (Mika Moth) and S (Serena Seahorse). The focus letter will be, the letter Kk. Our reader this week will be October.  This week we will be working on the following words: I and a.

In math we will be working on Sorting and Counting Objects.  We will sort objects into categories and describe the categories.  Also, we will count the number of objects in each category.  In addition, we will sort categories by the number of objects in each category.

Our Let’s Find Out this week will be Can You Hear an Apple? Children will articulate what they can learn about apples using their five senses.
